DISCUSSION…
Westerly winds will continue to advect in colder air through tonight which will allow temperatures to dip into the mid to upper teens overnight making for a chilly start to our Thursday as wind chills will be in the 5 to 10 degree range. However, as the aforementioned high moves into the area winds will shift towards the south which will allow slightly warmer air to begin to move into the area. Therefore, temperatures on Thursday will be slightly warmer than today due to this warm advection and sunny skies with highs expected to be in the mid to upper 30s. The clear skies should also allow the atmosphere to tap into 20 to 25 mph wind gusts Thursday afternoon which will continue into Friday morning as another weather system begins to move into the area on Friday.

Through Thursday night…
A strong 979 mb surface low continues to move eastward across northern Ontario as a surface high continues to build into the central Mississippi River Valley. This has positioned northeastern Illinois and northwest Indiana in between these two systems where a tight pressure gradient continues to be observed which is creating the breezy westerly winds this afternoon. Wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph are expected to continue into this evening before gradually easing after midnight as the surface high begins to settle into the area and weakens the pressure gradient.
