Sunday overnight …

No weather hazards expected…

DISCUSSION…

Pleasant, although cooler weather. A center of high pressure will be sliding into the northern Plains tonight. The resultant northwesterly flow will be pulling some cooler air into the Midwest. The cold air advection in conjunction with continued clear skies overhead will allow lows overnight Sunday to Monday to drop into the 30s across the area. Parts of the Rockford metro and surrounding areas may even see temperatures fall below freezing for the first time in over a week.

.SHORT TERM…
Issued at 314 PM CDT Sat Nov 5 2022

Through Sunday night…

Following this morning`s robust squall line, the rain has just about cleared the area to the east. The gusty winds, however, are still very much present. Much of the Chicago metro is seeing frequent gusts to near 60 mph. West and south of the metro is seeing closer to 40-50 mph gusts. Such conditions will persist through the late afternoon before winds begin steadily easing up through the evening and overnight as we cutoff most of our mixing and winds above the surface die down a bit. A tight surface pressure gradient will kee Pconditions breezy with 20-25 mph overnight. Meanwhile, most of the area is done with the rain for a good while. However, the the northwest CWA, namely parts of Ogle, Winnebago, and Boone counties, could see one final push of light rain early this evening with a few showers wrapping around the center of the Low and falling over the IL/IA state line at the moment (3PM).

Sunday morning, guidance has a little pocket of enhanced low level flow pushing over the area right as we begin to destabilize. This will result in 20-30 mph gusts through most of the morning. Winds will gradually come down through the late morning and afternoon as conditions aloft quiet down and the surface gradient flow weakens with the Low continuing its trek northeast. The LLJ departing to our northeast overnight tonight takes most of our low level moisture with it resulting in clearing skies overnight and sunny conditions on Sunday. Mild southerly flow chasing the Low out of the region will allow temperatures to warm into the lower 60s. With a center of high pressure approaching from the northwest Sunday night, continued clear skies and cool northwest flow will pull Monday morning lows into the 30`s for most.
