.SHORT TERM…
Issued at 233 PM CDT Wed Oct 19 2022

Through Thursday night…

No impactful weather is expected during the short term period.

After an impressively chilly morning across much of the eastern continental United States, mostly sunny skies and relatively light northwesterly winds have given way to a pleasant, though still chilly, Fall day. Generally quiet and pleasant weather is expected to continue through the next 36-48 hours hours as a surface high pressure system currently centered in the central Plains gradually drifts southeastward and the low pressure system responsible for our recent bout of unseasonably chilly weather lifts further away. Generally speaking, winds will gradually shift westerly and eventually southwesterly over the next 48 hours along the backside of the southeastward-drifting high pressure system. Accordingly, tomorrow will mark the start of a warming trend with highs rebounding into the low to mid 50s. No precipitation is expected through at least daybreak Friday, though a sprinkle or two cannot be ruled out tomorrow afternoon in northwestern Indiana (e.g. downstream of Lake Michigan) ahead of a moisture-starved wave propagating through the departing cyclonic flow aloft.
