Through Thursday night…
Now that many areas have cleared out this afternoon temperatures have quickly warmed into the upper 60s to lower 70s across the area, with the exception being northwest Indiana which remains locked in cloud cover with temps in the lower to mid 60s. Steady south winds this evening and overnight will hold temperatures in the mid to upper 50s tonight which, depending on the arrival time of Thursday night`s cold front.
Surface low pressure will begin to deepen overnight as the upper trough moves east across the central CONUS. Southeast of the low overhead our southerly surface winds will steadily increase in the morning also aided by sufficient mixing into the low-level jet overhead. Expect gusts in the 25 to 35 mph by mid morning that persist through the afternoon. There will be varying amounts of clouds through the day, but occasional clearing combined with mixing into an anomalously warm airmass aloft should allow temperatures to easily warm into the 70s areawide, potentially near record warmth in fact! Toward sunset on Thursday a line of showers along the approaching strong cold front may begin to sneak into our far northwest toward RFD. After sunset precip chances then steadily increase in areas along and northwest of I-55. It does look like showers will be on a weakening trend. While it cannot be ruled out it also looks like the threat for thunderstorms will also be diminishing on its approach as well. As the front passes, expect temperatures to begin to steadily decline through the night into early Friday morning.
