DISCUSSION…

Slightly declining temperatures overnight Monday to Tuesday from the low 30s to the upper 20s, thanks to initial clear skies, light winds and a dry air mass. A typical late autumn loss of heat after a sunny day with a chill in the air even before sunset. Winds calm or less than 3 MPH and shifting northwest to north-northeast to west-southwest to southwest. Cirrus clouds passing by north of I-80 after 9:00 p.m.

.UPDATE… Issued at 841 PM CST Mon Nov 21 2022

No significant changes to the going forecast this evening, save to make some hourly temp tweaks in our digital forecast database to account strong radiational cooling early this evening.

Weak surface cold front continues to push across roughly the I-57 corridor at mid-evening, though weak gradient and light wind field makes it a pretty subtle boundary. Initial clear skies, light winds and dry air mass has supported a quick decrease in temps into the mid-upper 20s in many spots after sunset. Based on upstream dew points this afternoon, overnight mins from near 20 in some of our typical cold spots to around 30 in downtown Chicago look reasonable, with low-mid 20s widespread outside of the urban core. Otherwise, light and variable or calm winds are expected overnight with some patchy cirrus passing across areas mainly along/north of I-80.

Other than the aforementioned near term temp trends, going forecast has all of the above in good shape this evening.
