Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville, IL
304 AM CST Mon Nov 21 2022

.SHORT TERM… Issued at 202 AM CST Mon Nov 21 2022

Through Tuesday…

Much milder conditions expected the next couple of days. Weak cold front will move into the area today and basically wash out tonight, so not expecting much of any meaningful push of cooler air behind the front. Atmosphere is quite dry, so even cloud cover should be at a premium with this boundary, let alone precipitation.

Temperature forecast the next couple of days is tricky. Guidance, in particular the NAM, thinks there is snow cover across our northern and western CWA and hold down temps substantially. Continued to lean on the warm side of guidance, particularly northern CWA, sticking close to the local 925mb temp climo max temps today and Wednesday.

Only other near term item of note is potential for a bit of shallow ground fog in the typical low lying nooks and crannies tonight. While boundary will be quite dry, clear skies, calm winds, and the long late November nights could be enough for temps to radiate out and result in some patchy fog. Winds just off the surface should be light easterly which could also allow for some lake effect stratocumulus to seep into lake adjacent areas of northeast IL tonight.
