Thursday and Thursday Evening …

No Weather Hazards expected …

Beautiful sunny day with high temperature forecast trending up from upper 60s to low 70s.

DISCUSSION…

Light winds under a surface high moving across the area early this morning will set up a fairly chilly start to the morning, as low temperatures bottom out in the upper 30s to low 40s. In spite of this cool start, temperatures will quickly rebound back into the the lower 60s by mid to late morning as the low-level flow turns south-southwesterly following the eastward departure of the surface high. Our warm-up continues this afternoon as a continued influx of warmer air from the southwest, combined with mostly sunny skies, drives inland temperatures into the lower 70s!

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville, IL
625 AM CDT Thu May 4 2023

.SHORT TERM… Issued at 301 AM CDT Thu May 4 2023

Through Friday…

Light winds under a surface high moving across the area early this morning will set up a fairly chilly start to the morning, as low temperatures bottom out in the upper 30s to low 40s. In spite of this cool start, temperatures will quickly rebound back into the the lower 60s by mid to late morning as the low-level flow turns south-southwesterly following the eastward departure of the surface high. Our warm-up continues this afternoon as a continued influx of warmer air from the southwest, combined with mostly sunny skies, drives inland temperatures into the lower 70s! It should thus be a rather pleasant day across the area, though cooler conditions can be expected near the northeastern IL lakeshore areas due to an afternoon lake breeze turning the winds onshore.

Friday is also looking to be a good weather day across the area, though we are likely to see a bit more mid and high-level cloudiness during the day as a couple of impulses track just to the north and south of the area. While we continue to mention low end chances for some showers in our west on Friday, most areas will remain precipitation free through the day. Inland temperatures may actually be a couple of degrees warmer on Friday, with highs potentially topping out in the middle 70s. Once again, however, an afternoon lake breeze is likely to result in cooler lakeside conditions in far northeastern IL.
