Wednesday and Wednesday Evening …
No Weather Hazards …
Mostly sunny, with a high near 62 Wednesday. East northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
DISCUSSION…
Surface high pressure over the core of the Great Lakes region will drift southeast while a mid/upper-level ridge follows eastward across the southern Great Lakes. Cloud-free skies are expected through tonight, though smoke from Canadian wildfires will continue to filter over the area. After a cooler day today, temps Thursday will return to the mid to upper 70s with the exception of colder conditions along the Illinois shoreline. Mild conditions will persist into Thursday evening ahead a cold front approaching from the northwest.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville, IL
604 AM CDT Wed May 17 2023
.SHORT TERM… Issued at 203 AM CDT Wed May 17 2023
Through Thursday…
Benign weather through Thursday. Synoptic northeasterly winds, enhanced by the lake, will result in a large lake cooling footprint today with 50s right along the shore, and 60s well inland past I-355 and I-80. Lower 70s will be confined to far southern and southwestern portions of the CWA. Warmer temps expected Thursday as mid-upper level shortwave ridging and low level warm air advection overspreads the area in advance of next trough. Highs should rebound well into the 70s Thursday afternoon, though slight easterly component to the sfc flow will allow a weak lake breeze to form along IL shore keeping temps there cooler (60s). Fairly dense upper level smoke layer from Canadian wild fires is likely to at least partially obscure sun today and probably Thursday as well, otherwise not looking for much actual cloud cover.
