Area Forecast Discussion

.SHORT TERM…
Issued at 252 AM CDT Sat Oct 15 2022
Through Sunday…
A quiet day is in store as surface high pressure shifts across southern Illinois in the wake of Friday evening`s trough. Mostly sunny skies with temps generally in the mid 50s are expected amid W/SW winds gusting to 25 mph. Low-level winds will remain elevated this evening as a 40 knot LLJ develops ahead of another cold front. Minimal mid to upper-level support and a rather dry antecedent airmass will result in a dry frontal passage overnight.
On Sunday, a reinforcing shot of cold air will begin advecting southward into the area on blustery northwest winds gusting to 25 mph. Resultant steepening of low-level lapse rates and gradual raising of a stout inversion in conjunction with diurnal heating will promote widespread stratocumulus across at least the north half of the CWA during the afternoon. Cloud depth may become sufficiently deep to generate isolated rain showers mid to late afternoon across northeast Illinois. Added silent 10% PoPs in this area for now with the vertical growth still somewhat limited ahead of the strongest CAA with the 850-700 hPa cold core approaching Sunday night.
