Tuesday: Showers likely after 1pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 52. Breezy, with a south wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night: Showers, mainly before 1am. Low around 45. Breezy, with a south southwest wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Through Wednesday…
Primary forecast concern is strong/gusty winds Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon.
High temps this afternoon have reached upper 40s northwest to lower 50s across the rest of the area under sunny skies. Increasing high/mid clouds overnight into Tuesday morning with lows back into the lower 30s by morning.
The gradient will tighten on Tuesday as low pressure moves across the Plains. Southerly winds will gust into the 35-40 mph Tuesday afternoon and turn more southeasterly. There may be a period in the early/mid evening Tuesday where wind gusts to 45 mph will be possible and may be associated with the showers during that time period. Perhaps the best time for the strongest prevailing wind gusts in the 40-45 mph range would be from the predawn hours on Wednesday through mid/late Wednesday morning. Its possible that a wind advisory will be needed for both of these time periods, perhaps more likely for the Wednesday morning time period, but confidence is too low to issue an advisory this afternoon and later forecasts can assess the start time and whether Tuesday evening will need to be included. Winds will steadily diminish Wednesday afternoon.
Rain showers will spread across the area Tuesday afternoon, perhaps not reaching the Chicago Metro area until sunset. There may be some light showers or sprinkles earlier in the afternoon. The rain showers will continue Tuesday evening, perhaps with a short gap and a second wave of showers later in the evening and into the early overnight of Wednesday morning. While the rain may be briefly heavy, storm total qpf amounts look to be in the quarter to third of an inch range, perhaps a few higher amounts.
