* Elevated risk of faster brush fire spread on Thursday
The long awaited break in what has been an exceptionally active stretch going back to last Friday`s historic severe weather episode is on our doorstep. Still seeing sporadic gusts to around 45 mph as of this writing, but forecast soundings suggest we should be able to let the Wind Advisory expire as planned at 4pm. Temperatures have already sharply dropped from the late spring warmth earlier today and cold advection will continue through the night. This will keep the boundary layer more mixed through the early overnight, so expect sporadic gusts up to 30-35 mph during the evening, adding to the chill. Skies will clear across the area during the evening, enabling lows to dip to the 29-35F range. With a modest westerly wind and much chillier temps to start Thursday than this (Wednesday) morning, don`t forget to dress for the weather Thursday morning.
Thursday will be a breezy and seasonably cool day, featuring highs generally in the 50-55F range, though with plenty of strong April sun. The very dry air mass moving into the region should mean dew points will be prone to mixing out down to the low-mid 20s, if not upper teens in spots per MOS guidance. Westerly winds gusting u Pto 25-30 mph and RH values dropping to the 25-35% range may yield an increased risk of more rapid brush fire spread, if fuels dry out quickly enough following the recent rain. Winds will quickly diminish Thursday evening as high pressure overspreads the region. Light winds, clear skies, and the dry air mass will support lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s outside of Chicago and mid to upper 30s in the city.
