Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville, IL
625 PM CDT Fri Apr 7 2023

.SHORT TERM… Issued at 212 PM CDT Fri Apr 7 2023

Through Saturday night…

Our quiet pattern continues into the weekend as does our steady warming pattern. A large high aloft is keeping the area dry and sunny today while a baroclinic zone draped across the north-central Plains and into the upper Midwest is resulting in modest warm advection down near the surface. Most of the area has made it into the lower and middle 50s as we now approach the mid-afternoon. Easterly flow at the surface is keeping communities near the lake in the 40s. A persistently dry profile will keep conditions clear through the night and bring more sunny skies on Saturday. The clear, dry conditions tonight will allow lows to drop into the middle 30s early Saturday morning. Luckily, those temperatures will climb quickly through the morning with just about the whole area expected to reach the lower 60s in the afternoon. The continued onshore flow will once again keep locales near the lake a few degrees cooler than inland areas. Another clear night Saturday night means another cool night as well with lows back in the middle and upper 30s for early Sunday morning. A few mid-high clouds may try to sneak in from the west prior to sunrise on Sunday with a wave moving across the Plains, but most, if not all of us, should remain under mostly clear skies into the day on Sunday.
