Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville, IL
606 AM CDT Thu Apr 13 2023
.SHORT TERM… Issued at 303 AM CDT Thu Apr 13 2023
Through Friday…
Other than less windy conditions and a bit of high cloudiness this afternoon, today should largely be a carbon copy of yesterday. High temps in the low to perhaps a couple mid 80s look on track, placing record highs in jeopardy (see climate section below).
Friday will be another summerlike day in many areas. Have adjusted high temps up 5F+ as air mass over the area will largely remain the same. HRRR/RAP have temps as warm as today, but it does appear that high and perhaps some mid level cloud cover could be around Friday. Bumped up temps to around 80F, but these forecast highs could end up being a few degrees too cool if the HRRR and RAP continue their winning streak.
One big difference Friday is that the pressure gradient will be a bit weaker and favoring a southeasterly flow. Given the still cold lake, this should open the door to a prominent lake breeze surging inland (especially across NE IL) during the afternoon and knocking temps back down to normal in its wake. Could see highs near the lake in the 70s Friday morning, but by the mid to late afternoon, temps behind the westward surging lake breeze should have dropped at least into the 70s and probably the 50s the closer you get to the lake.
