Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville, IL
1244 AM CDT Thu May 11 2023

.SHORT TERM… Issued at 254 PM CDT Wed May 10 2023

Through Thursday night…

All remains quiet here in the near term as high pressure remains stationed over the northeast quadrant of the CONUS. Temperatures have warmed into the mid to upper 70s this afternoon across most of our forecast area, save for our lake-adjacent locales as a lake breeze has pulled the cooler marine air mass inland. Temperatures may still tag 80 in some spots this afternoon but are otherwise expected to fall into the 50s tonight. Can`t completely rule out some patchy marine fog developing along portions of the Illinois lakeshore again tonight into tomorrow morning, but confidence in this occurring was not high enough to justify introducing a formal mention of this in the forecast grids at this point.

Tomorrow will more or less have a similar feel to today with unseasonably mild temperatures (a few degrees warmer than today`s at most locations), fairly dry humidity levels, and no precipitation anticipated during the daytime hours. Another lake breeze should charge inland and result in cooler temperatures near the lake, particularly along the Illinois side of the lakeshore. Cloud cover should be on the increase, especially late in the day, as a weather system approaches from the south. As this system draws a plume of rich Gulf moisture northward, scattered showers and perhaps a few storms will likely spread into our CWA Thursday night, though not anticipating any much of any impacts with this activity with the main instability plume lagging behind the initial moisture surge.
