Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville, IL
521 AM CST Fri Jan 13 2023

.SHORT TERM… Issued at 413 AM CST Fri Jan 13 2023

Through Saturday…

Early morning water vapor imagery shows the upper low just north of Detroit, with a shortwave swinging southeast along the Illinois/Missouri border. Some heavier snow showers have continued to drop southward with visibility reductions to around a mile or so, though as of 3:30 am these were mainly near/south of I-88 and the snow has tapered to flurries or ended near the Wisconsin border. By 6 am or so, this should largely be diminished to flurries on the Illinois side of the CWA. Focus the remainder of the day will be with lake effect across northwest Indiana, as winds off the lake remain largely straight out the north. Amounts of an inch or two are possible in the heavier bands.

As the upper low/trough pull east later today, clouds will begin to break up from the west, with partly cloudy conditions by mid evening on the Illinois side. However, the flow off the lake will keep the Indiana counties mostly cloudy into midday Saturday.
